Identifying Effective Teachers Policy
Commendably, all teachers in Nevada must be evaluated annually.
Nonprobationary teachers must be evaluated at least once a year. New teachers in Nevada must be evaluated three times a year. A conference and written evaluation for a probationary teacher must be concluded no later than December 1, February 1 and April 1 of each school year of the probationary period. Each evaluation must consist of at least one observation.
Base evaluations on multiple observations.
To guarantee that annual evaluations are based on an adequate collection of information, Nevada should require multiple observations for all teachers, even those who have nonprobationary status. Further, as evaluation instruments become more data driven, it may not be feasible to issue multiple formal evaluation ratings during a single year. Applicable student data will likely not be available to support multiple ratings.
