Delivering Well Prepared Teachers Policy
Connecticut requires that teacher preparation programs for
elementary teacher candidates address the science of reading. The state also
requires that candidates pass a rigorous test of reading instruction prior to
initial licensure.
All applicants for endorsement in elementary
education must pass the Connecticut Foundations of Reading Test. The test's
objectives include the five components of scientific reading instruction:
phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and comprehension.
