Washington, D.C.-- If this contract is approved, Newark will be walking away from pioneering reforms that fueled the district's landmark progress. Under that system, highly effective teachers were able to earn an additional $12,500 on top of their regular salary. No longer. Under the proposed contract, Newark will be spending taxpayer dollars on a policy repeatedly found in research to add no value to student learning and which poses a tremendous burden on teachers' precious time: paying teachers higher salaries for earning advanced degrees.
