That great arbiter of school rankings, U.S. News and World Report has just come out with a useful compendium of schools of ed in the Ultimate Guide to Becoming a Teacher. The guide provides individual profiles on every graduate school of education in the nation. (It's clear some schools were a lot more cooperative than others in terms of the data they were willing to provide.) There's also a chapter describing major alternative certification programs. The market here is clearly the post-bacc aspiring teacher but we think a similar effort for undergrad ed schools--whose admission data is hidden in a dark cloud--would be as welcome. This effort includes no rankings, which was probably a tremendous relief to the schools involved, but it does include a useful stat on how competitive admissions are for each program.
