The California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan and New York branches of Democrats for Education Reform, the organization dedicated to renewing the Democratic Party's historic commitment to effective public education for all students, have signed on.
The ACLU of Maryland has also become an endorser. Since 1994, they have been working to guarantee that the quality of Maryland children's education is not determined by the neighborhoods in which they happen to live.
Concern over teacher preparation crosses ideological lines. We welcome the addition of the Fordham Institute, Kansas Policy Institute and Platte Institute -- organizations that take a more conservative approach to policy issues -- to our list of supporters.
In fact, it's fair to say that improving teacher prep is an issue that transcends ideology altogether. The non-partisan NYCAN and MarylandCAN join the other branches of 50CAN in endorsing our review. And we're honored that organizations that take a broad approach to improving child well-being like Maryland's Advocates for Children and Youth and the Colorado Children's Campaign have decided to take a stand on teacher preparation as well.
Of course, the group impacted most directly by teacher preparation are teachers themselves. So we're particularly pleased to announce the endorsements of two independent teachers' organizations -- Educators 4 Excellence and the Association of American Educators (check out AAE's blog post on their endorsement).
To all of these organizations, thank you for your support!
