&you've been given $23.8 million by the federal government, but you forget to spend it?
That's the situation that the Washington, DC, public school system finds itself in. The DCPS was given $20 million dollars in federal funds for teacher training and professional development which they had to spend by the close of business Tuesday or it would revert back to the federal treasury.
Robert Rice, chief academic officer for the DCPS, says in his defense, "I'm really puzzled by the idea that we were given $23.8 million for professional development."
