We were so pleased to join the Kansas City community and Crosby Kemper at the Kansas City Public Library last week for an engaging discussion about teacher preparation. The packed house had some great questions for NCTQ's president, Kate Walsh, including the extent to which teacher prep programs are preparing new teachers in reading instruction and how the NCTQ Teacher Prep Review might include a standard that captures what teachers need to know to effectively teach disadvantaged youth.
Our thanks to the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation and the KC Library for helping to organize such a valuable conversation.
We'd love to come to your community to discuss the importance of teacher preparation and how to improve it. If you're interested in hosting an event, please contact Sarah Brody (sbrody@nctq.org).
